Calgary Weather: Unusually strong late-season storm moves through Alberta

A rare late-season severe storm developed across central Alberta Monday night, prompting a warning from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Hail, heavy rain and strong winds were all mentioned in the national weather agency’s warning.

The temperature dictated the nature of the precipitation. The rain quickly changed to snow north of the initial front.

The effects of that late-season storm were still evident Tuesday morning.

Scattered light to mixed precipitation continued through the Calgary area early Tuesday, and as of 7 a.m. visibility was slightly compromised along the Calgary to Lethbridge corridor.

Sunshine will replace clouds throughout Tuesday, but a cooler air mass will keep daytime highs in southern Alberta a few degrees below seasonal averages.

The Halloween forecast will be slightly cooler, but with daytime sunshine, it will feel slightly warmer than the ambient temperature.

The sun sets at 18:11 on 31st October and as the children go outside the temperature will be closer to 0C.
