Gurfateh Pirzada recalls working on Guilty: ‘Consent is so important’

Gaining his first experience of glory with Guilty, Gurfateh landed a role that was passed on by most actors at the time. Understanding the impact and importance of the topic, Gurfateh experienced the lack of awareness of consent firsthand.

Recalling a meeting with friends, Gurfateh said: “I remember when I told the story of Guilty to my closest friends, the room was divided – half of them said my character raped her and the other half said no. That’s when I realized that consent is so important. Also, in India, due to the lack of sex education, most people don’t understand the boundaries, which acted as a catalyst to understand and interpret the character the way I did. The interesting part is that as long as I continue to do things that are further from my experiences, there are people who have had those experiences. So I’m constantly looking for interesting characters around me to add to my work in front of the camera.”
