West Bengal police on Tuesday arrested a doctor in Hasnabad in North 24 Parganas district on charges of raping a female patient after injecting her with a sedative.

District police sources said the doctor was arrested on a complaint filed by the victim and her husband, who works in another state.

In her complaint, she claimed that a few days ago when her husband was out of state, she went to the accused doctor for treatment.

According to her complaint, the doctor first sedated her and then raped her. However, this was not the end. According to the complaint, the accused doctor also captured some pictures of the victim in awkward positions while she was in a sedated stage and then blackmailed her by threatening to make those pictures viral.

The victim also claimed that after blackmailing her, the accused doctor later raped her several times. She also accused the said doctor of extorting an amount of around 4,00,000 lei from her, threatening to make her pictures viral on social media.

Initially, according to her complaint, she was unable to confide the developments to anyone for fear of losing social prestige. She also said that she felt helpless as her husband was away from the station at that time.

However, recently, when her husband returned home, she entrusted everything to him. The husband consoled her and pursued her to lodge a complaint with the police so that the accused doctor could be arrested.

Later, upon receiving the complaint, the police arrested the accused doctor. At the time of filing the report, the accused had been presented to a court, and the prosecutor requested his arrest for five days.

District police sources said the next step would be to record the victim’s confidential statement before a judicial magistrate.
