Woman calls 911 to order pizza — prompts Florida deputies to save her from alleged attacker

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – A woman calls 911 to order a pizza at 4 a.m. While it may seem like a mistake, it wasn’t. The victim — who was being held against her will in a field — told dispatchers she was injured and needed help.

Using cell tower technology — Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies were able to not only locate the woman — but just in time — saving her from her alleged attacker.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office released dramatic body camera video last week of the incident — which happened on Oct. 19.

As the deputies showed up — you can see them shining the light on the suspect — Luis Moncayo Hernandez, 27 — who was on top of the victim.

In the video, you can hear the deputy telling her to get off her — as the victim says — “She’s trying to rape me — can you help me.”

When the woman realizes help has arrived — you can hear her scream — “Thank God… Thank God!” — as deputies assured her she was fine and they were there to help.

“When you watch the video — if you’re a father or you’re a grandfather — if you’re a brother — and you hear those screams coming from our victim — it makes your hair stand on end. the neck goes up,” Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.

The woman called 911 — when the dispatcher answered — she said, “I’d like to order a pizza.”

When asked by the dispatcher if she knew she was calling 911 — the woman confirmed she knew she was calling that number. She was able to provide enough information to let them know she was in trouble and needed help. Although she didn’t know her location — dispatchers were able to triangulate her phone — they led deputies to that general area behind a daycare center.

“The victim in this case said she knew her attacker that they went into the fernery to have a few drinks — alcoholic beverages — and that should have been it. However, during this outing — he did a line of cocaine and she said he did a 180 and said he became extremely violent and wouldn’t let her go and tried to rape her. The video again speaks for itself,” Sheriff Chitwood said.

Sheriff Chitwwod praised the response and the outcome.

“I’m so proud of number one — our victim — that I have a place to keep his intelligence and that information for our communications people. For our communications people to be able to decipher what’s going on — and use technology to put our deputies in the general area where she was. And obviously you can see the deputy’s response and taking this bastard into custody,” Sheriff Chitwood said.

Chitwood says Moncayo Hernandez is in the country illegally and applied for asylum the day before the incident. Meanwhile, the Border Patrol issued a detainer on Moncayo Hernandez. He now faces charges of attempted sexual assault, assault by strangulation and false imprisonment.
