Mr Majek appeared at Walsall Magistrates’ Court charged with attempted murder, but since Ms Whyte’s death the charge has been upgraded.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on November 19.

The Radisson hotel group declared itself extremely saddened by the loss of a highly valued colleague.

“Our sincere condolences and deepest sympathies go out to Rhiannon’s family and those affected are being offered as much support as possible during this difficult time,” it said in a statement.

Det Ch Insp Paul Attwell, of British Transport Police, added that specialist officers were supporting Ms Whyte’s relatives.

“Our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time,” he said.

“I would like to again reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this.”
