A man was allegedly armed with a gun in a standoff with Clay County Sheriff’s deputies

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man allegedly armed with a gun was in a standoff with Northland law enforcement officers Monday night after he allegedly assaulted a woman and refused police orders to leave a home in Pleasant Valley, Missouri.

The incident began around 6:20 p.m., when Claycomo and Pleasant Valley police officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance in the 7100 block of Fulton Road, according to a news release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department.

A woman and her children exited the home when Claycomo officers arrived.

The woman told police that the man in the house assaulted her, was still in the house and armed with a gun.

The press release states that the woman was not seriously injured in the attack.

He refused the officer’s commands to exit the home and deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and its Special Tactics and Response (STAR) team came to the home.

Law enforcement officers evacuated nearby homes.

They are also trying to find out if anyone other than the suspect is still in the home, according to the news release.

Clay County Sheriff’s Officer negotiators are communicating with the man inside the home.
