KINGSTON, Jamaica – A Tivoli Gardens man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison in connection with a 2020 robbery in Denham Town.

He is Roshawn Samuels, otherwise known as “Son Son”.

Samuels was slapped with charges including shooting with intent and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to 15 years and two months for the first charge of shooting with intent; 15 years and two months for count two, 15 years and two months for count three, and 10 years and two months for unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentences will run concurrently.

According to police reports, in the incident that took place on April 6, 2020, a police team on mobile patrol received information about a robbery in DenhamTown.

Upon their arrival, two men matching the description given to police were seen. After seeing the police, the men ran and were chased by the police. One of the men then opened fire on law enforcement before fleeing the area.

Following an investigation, Samuels was arrested in January 2021, where he was later charged with felony counts of shooting with intent and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The matter went to the Supreme Court in July 2024, where Samuels was found guilty of the offences.
