The Lily Peters case will continue in Chippewa County

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – The case against a teenager accused of killing Lily Peters in 2022 will now continue in Chippewa County Court.

Court records show a remittitur was filed Friday, meaning the case is back in trial court.

According to Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell, the court will set the matter for trial, which is the day the suspect, now 16, pleads guilty or not guilty to the charges.

In September 2024, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals ruled that the teenager charged in the death of Lily Peters will be tried in adult court. The court said the defense failed to prove the seriousness of the offense would not be diminished by moving the case to juvenile court.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and sexual assault in the 2022 killing of Peters, who was just 10 years old. She was reported missing on the night of April 24, 2022. The next morning, her body was discovered. in the forest near her home in Chippewa Falls.
