Stearns County woman pleads guilty to Polk County meth crimes – Grand Forks Herald

POLK COUNTY, Minn. — A Sartell, Minn., woman pleaded guilty Monday, Oct. 28, to selling methamphetamine and driving under the influence in Polk County.

Sonja Robin Plantz, 42, pleaded guilty to first-degree felony sale of at least 17 grams of methamphetamine within a 90-day period and fourth-degree felony driving while under the influence a controlled substance.

The crime carries a maximum sentence of 30 years, although Minnesota’s sentencing guidelines recommend between 56 and 150 months.

An additional first-degree count with an enhanced sentence because of a prior drug conviction is expected to be dismissed.

A proposed plea deal says the state would seek the minimum prison sentence, and the defense would be free to argue for a departure from that.

Plantz was stopped

in March, and because of her demeanor and the way she answered questions — vaguely and with inconsistent answers — the officer suspected she was involved in criminal activity, according to a probable cause statement filed in the case.

A K-9 detected an odor of a controlled substance; Plantz allegedly admitted to having methamphetamine in her vehicle and using it that morning. A subsequent drug test confirmed this.

Her vehicle was searched and law enforcement found a bag of suspected methamphetamine, the release said. The bag was field tested and gave a positive result. It weighed 3.8 grams.

Plantz told law enforcement he agreed to sell an ounce of methamphetamine to someone in Polk County for $600, the release said. When she was pulled over, Plantz was returning from selling methamphetamines in Winger.

She said she bought three ounces from someone in Monticello, Minn., the day before and sold two ounces to a man at a bus stop near Clearwater.

Sentencing is scheduled for 09:00, February 6.
