A Summit County coroner is identifying a teenager killed in a Halloween party shooting

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – The Summit County Medical Examiner has identified the 18-year-old girl killed in the Akron Halloween party shooting that injured two other teenagers Saturday night.

On Monday, the Summit County medical examiner identified the slain teenager as Lashae Ellis of Akron.

According to an Akron police release, officers responded to a shooting at a Halloween party at a residence in the 100 block of Paris Avenue around 10:46 p.m., Saturday.

Officers arrived to find Ellis critically injured with an apparent gunshot wound.

Akron police also found a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the two fled the incident after being shot.

According to police, the younger teenagers are expected to recover, but Ellis was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The names of the victims are being withheld pending further investigation.

Based on a preliminary investigation, during a Halloween party at a home, an unknown male pulled out a gun and fired shots while inside the home striking the teenagers.

Officers detained an 18-year-old man after a brief foot chase and recovered a gun he dropped while running from police.

However, it is not yet known what role, if any, the man played in the shooting.

Police charged the man with carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business.

According to the release, officers transported him to the Summit County Jail, where he was booked.

Akron police said the investigation is still in its early stages as detectives work to determine who fired the shots.
