Meet the CAMDOM app: a “digital condom” to stop recording without consent

Have you ever wished your phone came with a “privacy mode” that would actually protect your private moments? Enter the latest creation from German sexual wellness brand BILLY BOY: CAMDOM, an app designed to keep prying eyes (and ears) out of your business.

Let’s face it: smartphones make it very easy to take photos, videos or audio without permission, and that’s a big problem, especially for teenagers. Once something is leaked online, it can spread like wildfire, causing emotional havoc for victims.

Described as a “digital condom,” CAMDOM blocks cameras and microphones on your and nearby Bluetooth-enabled devices, helping you stay in control of your personal space—literally, with just a swipe.

So how does this work? Simply put your smartphones together, slide a virtual button, and all cameras and microphones are locked. If someone tries to peek or record, an alarm goes off, alerting you to the potential threat. Plus, you can lock multiple devices at once, so you and your partner can feel safe.

During the launch of the app, developer Felipe Almeida said: “Nowadays, smartphones have become an extension of our body and we store a lot of sensitive data on them. To protect you from recording non-consensual content, we’ve created the first app that can block your camera and microphone simply by using Bluetooth.”

BILLY BOY Brand Manager Alexander Strümann added: “BILLY BOY is a brand known for protecting people from the analogue world, so we wanted to take it the next step and protect the digital generation from a threat that a normal condom cannot address, but a digital can: namely, non-consensual media leakage during sex.”

Launched in 30 countries, CAMDOM is designed to manage multiple devices, so you and your friends are extra protected. And to disable the “digital shield”, just press and hold the unlock button on both devices for three seconds. But beware: anyone trying to bypass the app’s restrictions will set off another alarm if things start to get too crazy.

Currently available on Android, the CAMDOM app is coming soon to iOS, making it easier than ever to enjoy safe and consensual fun in the digital age.
