Oconomowoc train crash; car hit, driver taken to trauma center

OCONOMOWOC, Wis.An Oconomowoc train accident injured one person Friday afternoon, November 22nd.

Surveillance video showed the moments leading up to the crash near Main and Summit. Police said the car was crossing Summit Avenue at Main Street just before 1 p.m. when it crossed in front of the path of a Canada-Pacific freight train.

Police said the driver of the car was extricated and taken to a trauma center. The extent of the person’s injuries is unclear.

“It’s just kind of crazy,” said Crystal Rosey, who was by the tracks when it happened. “The jaws of life were tearing at doors.”

Police said two other cars were damaged in the impact, but no one in either car was injured. No one on the train was injured.

“You just hope for the best. You don’t want to see anybody hurt,” Rossey said.

Oconomowoc Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and what led up to it. Western Lakes Fire District, Wisconsin State Patrol and Canadian Pacific Kansas City Police Service assisted at the scene.
